After a career in banking and finance, Roy retired in 2000 and joined a local art group in East Dean in Sussex. He started to paint in watercolours but soon found that acrylics better suited his very detailed style.
Inspired by a visit to the National Iris Collection in Alicante, Spain he was entranced by the unique natural contours and vibrant colours and so began an interest in Irises and other colourful flowers. His paintings are vibrant with rich tones, paying particular attention to the direction of primary light and the shade created. In 2020, Roy was a finalist in the June/July edition of International Artist Magazine with his painting of an Iris Germanica-Emma Louise.

Having moved to Shoreham-By-Sea in 2018 he extended his range and interest which is now more ecletic and his photorealism style suits broader landscapes, seascapes and recently, even african big game.
