Roy Webb was born in Plymouth, Devon where he started his career as a banker. Later he became the chief executive of an international banking recruitment business in London.  When he took early retirement to Sussex in 2000, inspired and encouraged by the local village art group, he started to paint in watercolours but soon found that acrylics better suited his detailed style.

Inspired by a visit to the National Iris Collection in Alicante, Spain he was entranced by the unique natural contours and vibrant colours of the flowers and so began an interest in Irises and other colourful flowers.  His paintings are vibrant with rich tones, paying particular attention to the direction of primary light and the shade created.

Well known locally for his photorealism style he also specialises in landscapes, seascapes and detailed florals, taking inspiration from the South Downs and Shoreham coastline where he now lives.

In 2020, Roy was a finalist in the June/July edition of International Artist Magazine with his painting of an Iris Germanica-Emma Louise.
